37th Annual Spring Shearing
Saturday and Sunday
April 22-23, 2017
11:00 am to 4:00 pm

Rainbow Fleece Farm was established in 1978.  Beginning in 1980, our spring shearing brought appreciative spinners to the farm to meet the sheep and choose a fleece.  Now most of the sheep will be shorn prior to show day, but we will reserve some to be shorn at the event.  Marcie Poppen, Polo IL, a former Iowa Women Shearing Champion!!!  Shearing at noon, 1&2 pm.  Joining us are area fiber guilds demonstrating carding, spinning, knitting, weaving, felting… on Saturday, the Marshall Spinners Guild will be with us.  On Sunday the Bishop Hill Fiber Arts Guild from western Illinois will be spinning on the wheel and with the hand spindle.  Join in!  Curious about Blending Boards?  Lynn Weinberger (Oregon WI) will be playing with spring colors and spinning the multi colored rolags.  Pat Ottaway (Monroe WI) will show machine needle felting and wool appliqué for “Penny Rugs.”
NEEDLEFELTING anyone?  We’ll have our “hands on” session… learn the basics both days!

SHEEPSKINS – Just back from the tannery, many colors and sizes… machine washable.
SLOW SOX – Our new crew sox are back!  Custom made with our Blue Merino wool & milled on a small scale for a Sustainable and Earth-friendly lifestyle.  70% Wool/30% Nylon.
ASHFORD FIBER EQUIPMENT – spinning wheels, Rigid Heddle Looms, Blending Boards, hand carders and more.
WOOLEN BLANKETS – woven from our yarn in a natural plaid.
BREEDING STOCK – English Leicester, Blue Face or CVM.
FARM TO TABLE LAMB, CHICKEN AND TURKEY – Licensed, USDA inspected.  Chemical free and humanely raised.

YARN FROM THE BARN – Lovely natural colors or hand dyed – in sport, worsted, and bulky weight.
ASTONISHING FLEECES – In white, silver, charcoal, brown, and espresso.  Fine Merino, beautiful Blue Face, or luxurious English Leicester… all easy to prepare – or – turn it in for processing in our fiber mill!
SHEEPSKINS – Just back from the tannery, many colors and sizes… Done with a special process so that you can machine wash your new sheepskin!
WASHABLE WOOL BLANKETS –  Full and queen size blankets woven with your yarn in a variety of natural plaids, as well as our popular throws.

RAINBOW CARDING COMPANY can process your wool “plain” or “fancy”… with glitz or accent luxury fibers/dyed lock wool!
NATURALLY RAISED LAMB – Licensed, USDA inspected.  Chemical free cuts include:  leg of lamb, chops, steaks, roasts, stir-fry, ground lamb and lamb brats, in two flavors, gyro/smoked.
